About Stewart Bibby

I am a Principal Lecturer and Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Product Design, teaching across all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate pathways. I have a strong interest in design education forging commercial links and partnerships with Industry and Enterprise and also leadership at many levels of Higher Education Industrial Design education. I have undertaken academic leads within Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and regularly engage the Product Design programme with industrial and commercial clients, through student studio projects, producing award winning gift product ranges, industrial new product development and innovative product solutions for external partners to the University. As a result of growing commercial engagement, I am a founding team member of the DesignBlok initiative, which seeks to grow Enterprise links through strong Design Thinking across the School, the College and the University. I have previously worked as a furniture designer and design office manager in Manchester, prior to moving to the Lincoln School of Art & Design in the early 1990s. I have also introduced a series of hosted TeachMeet activities with D&T school teachers from across the Lincolnshire region, which have resulted in the School of Design and College of Arts expanding the Lincolnshire Young Designer of the Year Competition from 2018.

Department Responsibilities

I teach across all levels of the undergraduate and postgraduate Product Design pathways and am Programme Leader for the BA programme, which includes being point of contact for all incoming students and attending relevant events such as UCAS fairs to introduce the programme area to prospective students.  I am responsible for all curriculum and project administration of the BA (Hons) Product Design programme and lead on commercial project developments such as live projects and leadership of the ongoing BRADLAB project, which includes regular lecture and tutorial input from specialists such as the Gadget Show’s Jason Bradbury and also Student as Producer and entrepreneurial outputs from such projects.  As part of this, I have set up exciting collaborations with students across disciplines from Bsc and Msc Engineering and Bsc Computer Science programmes, who have helped creative design students to realise technology projects by developing fully-working prototypes for commercial national and international exhibitions; some of which lead to prospective new business development in preparation for graduate progression.  This is leading also to exciting new collaborations expected to include Interactive Designers and Sports Scientists, from a growing range of specialisms from across the University.  As part of the DesignBlok initiative I am looking to expand this collaborative approach across Schools and Colleges internally and further into commercial, research and business projects externally.
