About Marcella Forster

I am a screenwriter and filmmaker specialising in dramas about parent-child dynamics. My work has been published in books, shown in cinemas and television and screened via the internet. I have written for British television soaps EastEnders (BBC1) and Crossroads (Carlton).  My feature film scripts have been optioned by directors Antonia Bird and Randal Kleiser. My screenplay Dark Rosaleen about the flight of starving Irish to Canada during a potato famine won the Euroscript competition. Teen surfer script Rites of May was a finalist in the British Film Institute Script Factory competition and a semifinalist in the 1997 US Academy Foundation Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. I have written and directed two short films, Daddy’s Girl, funded by the UK Film Council, which screened in competition at the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, and The Lamb and Flag, partly funded by NESTA. Both films have been screened at festivals around the world.

Department Responsibilities

I am the joint programme leader of the MA in Media, Film and Television Production and also co-ordinate the script and screenwriting modules at level two and three of the BA in Media Production and BA in Film and Television. I have recently set up an International Buddy Scheme, which provides mentors for new international students in the School of Film and Media. My responsibilities include submitting student films to international and national film festivals.
