Lincoln School of Film and Media
College of Arts
Jack Shelbourn is a Lecturer in College of Arts and Director of Photography, shooting feature film, short film and commercial production. Jack brings this professional practice to his teaching at the university, keeping it current along side his projects within the industry. He films across all digital cinema formats, specializing in digital camera operating & lighting. Enjoying various lighting techniques and set ups, Jack shoots a lot with large soft sources, and wall bounces combining this with as much natural light as possible, which has become his main style of lighting over the last few years. With the camera in hand, Jack shoots reactively, not quite in a documentary style, but hand held and following the story as the locations reveal themselves and as the actors explore the space they are in. Jack brings these styles to his teaching, along with traditional techniques that have come from classical training, participating in master-classes and attending events with some of the worlds top Cinematographers with the BSC. He has shot films across the UK and Europe, working with local and foreign crews and is very happy to be part of the team at the University of Lincoln. His research at the University is focused on emerging and future Film/Media Technology. Especially how AI will shape the way films and made and consumed.
