About Derek Foster

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Lincoln School of Computer Science where I work researching and teaching the social applications of technology across a range of contexts, particularly for sustainability purposes. My teaching encompasses the Mobile, Cloud, and IoT areas of computing to teach students how to design, develop, and evaluate connected and scalable software systems/applications. I have a strong background in Computer Science and Human Computer Interaction, with teaching primarily focused on the technical aspects of cloud and mobile computing, with the application of qualitative and quantitative research methods where relevant.  Currently I am the Principal Investigator for a KTP in Cyber Security in the space of electro-mechanical locking systems, and the Principal Investigator for a recently completed project with the UK Space Agency on supporting evacuation of coastal regions in the UK using Cloud and Mobile technologies. I hold a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Lincoln and an MSc in Human-centred Interactive Technologies from the University of York.
