About Chris Phelan

Chris Phelan is a Senior Lecturer in Lincoln International Business School. Chris joined the University of Lincoln in 2014, having previously held an academic post at the University of Central Lancashire, where he also completed his PhD which considered the entrepreneurial competencies of rural business owners. Prior to commencing an academic career, Chris worked in a number of project management roles in the public sector, principally related to regeneration and local economic development. Chris's research continues to consider the contribution of entrepreneurs and small business owners to local economic development. In particular, the role of competencies and skills development within regional entrepreneurial ecosystems. More recently, Chris's work has focused on entrepreneurial development in the Global South, with ongoing data collection in Mexico, Ghana and Bhutan. Chris is particularly interested in the potential for entrepreneurship to contribute to poverty reduction and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
