    About Angela Thody

I’ve been enjoyably employed in higher education for most of my career including teaching undergraduates at De Montfort and Leicester Universities, trainee teachers at Leicester University’s School of Education, education postgraduates at Leicester, Bedford and Open Universities and currently Doctoral students at Lincoln University. Along the way I have also taught every age from 3 to 93, ranging across senior educators from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, distance learning OU students, school governors, playschool and primary school pupils, hobby groups, business and medical managers. I combined this enjoyable work with my part time studies for Masters and Doctoral degrees. My lecturing has taken me around the world and I’ve now taught in all continents except the Antarctic (offers welcome!). My research has centred on contemporary educational leadership since 1986 but I’ve recently completed a study of retired educational leaders in English HE. I have also studied many allied fields in university teaching, education for girls in Africa and school governors inter alia. In these areas, I have written/edited ten academic books, 50+ articles in professional and academic journals, various chapters and research reports. I edited one of the journals of the British Education Leadership Management and Administration Society for seven years, was the first female President of the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration for six years and am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I retired in 2003 and was then given the distinction of Emeritus status but I returned to Lincoln University for a few months in 2006 to assist as the department expanded. CERD expanded so fast that I am still here holidng a new professorial appointment as well as my Emeritus Professorship. .
