About Daniel Stones

Born in Nottingham in 1964, I spent my junior school years just up the road in Ingham County Primary School.  My family relocated back to Nottingham in the ‘70s where I attended Bramcote Hills Grammar School.  I left school at 17 to become an Engineering Apprentice in the RAF where I studied for an HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering.  I subsequently enjoyed a 30 year career in the RAF, mainly spent as an avionics engineer maintaining the RAF’s fleet of Tornado F3 fast jet interceptors.  This encompassed many overseas trips to the USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Oman, Italy, Holland and some operational action such as the two Gulf Wars and the Balkans conflict. I spent the last 8 years of my career behind a desk helping to make engineering policy for Tornado and Hawk aircraft at Head Quarters Strike Command and for the Sentry E3D Project Team at RAF Waddington.  I live in a wonderfully crumbly Victorian semi in the South Common area of Lincoln with my wife Jenny, children Katie, Jack and our two cats, Thomas & Tessie.  As for sports & pastimes, I am a player/coach at Horncastle Hockey Club and have represented the RAF and Combined Services at Masters (over 40) level in various regional and national competitions.  I play golf to a 15 handicap and am a member at Thorpe Park Golf Complex and regularly play in golf society competitions.  Other favourite pastimes at the moment include Cooking, PC gaming and watching sports of all types (live & on the TV) and am a life long fan of Leeds Utd FC.  I love the diverse challenges that the role of Technician in the School of Engineering brings and have amazing colleagues and a work/life balance that make this job one of the most rewarding I have ever undertaken.
